District Title

About Us

The Northern Mountain District is comprised of thirty churches, stretching across three states - eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and most of Montana.  These congregations are part of a District family that cooperate to minister to the two and a half million people that live in this vast area (850 miles east-to-west, and 300 miles north-to-south).

This land is beautiful and diverse, made up of mountains, praries, orchards, fields, forests, and rivers.  Our District contains six national parks, and is rich in the history of the American West.  Some of North America's major rivers have their headwaters here and many mountain peaks soar over ten thousand feet.

The people that live in the Northern Mountain District enjoy the lifestyle that comes with sparsely populated areas.  While it may take some time to build trusting relationships, Northern Mountain folk are well known for their generosity and willingness to help strangers in times of trouble.  Our District is not racially diverse, made up primarily of Anglo-Americans and Native Americans.  Fourteen Indian Reservations are home to thirty tribal people groups across the Northern Mountain District.  There are also small populations of Hispanic and Eastern European immigrants.

Our economy involves many things, including agriculture, tourism, mining, forestry, and government jobs (the U.S. Government is our largest landowner, owning about 75% of the land).  High-tech and manufacturing jobs exist, but have been slow to develop.  Many communities are single-industry towns that often follow a boom/bust cycle.

We invite you to explore our beautiful home some more!  Come visit us and see the great opportunities that exist to expand God's Kingdom in the Northern Mountain District.
